In Clash Royale, there are currently 73 cards in game, and another upcoming 6 cards and possibly a lot more in the near future. Supercell is constantly adding new cards to change the metagame, which makes it tough for newer players. Every card has its purpose in a deck. But in this article, we will be focusing on this special tier of cards, aka Legendary Cards. These cards are hard to come by, and when you reach Hog Mountain (3000 trophies), you can buy cards at random in the card shop! But at the high cost of 40,000 gold, it is hard to decide which cards you should invest all your gold into. Without further ado, here is the Top 5 Clash Royale Legendary Cards and why you should get/use them!
Legendary #1: Electro Wizard
“He lands with a “POW!”, stuns nearby enemies and shoots lightning with both hands! What a show off.”
The Electro Wizard is the #1 Legendary, because of the utility it provides. His spawn damage is able to kill off weak troops, and every attack of his is like a Zap Spell. Despite doing AoE damage upon spawning, he only targets up to 2 enemies, splitting his damage in half.
The Electro Wizard can stop many cards on defense, such as the Goblin Gang, Hog Rider, Baby Dragon and almost every other card that is 4 or less elixir. It even survives from a fireball. It can stop a Lava Hound, and even shut down the Lava Pups once the Lava Hound pops.
He shines well in the different deck archetypes in the game. Beatdown, Siege and Control decks. For Beatdown decks, he is a very powerful supporting troop which can effectively counter the opponent’s Inferno Tower. For Siege decks, once of the hard counters are Inferno Towers placed at the bridge, next to your Siege card. The Electro Wizard resets the Inferno Towers and allows you to continue to siege away. For Control Decks, he is your core defensive card.
Legendary #2: Graveyard
“Surprise! It’s a party. A Skeleton party, anywhere in the Arena. Yay!”
The Graveyard is an insanely strong Legendary card, especially at lower levels when newer players do not know how to counter efficiently. It can be the main win-condition for a deck.
When paired up with a cheap tank such as an Ice Golem or a Knight, the Tower will target the tank and be unable to take out the skeletons. Although an offensive spell, you can use it defensively to swarm the incoming troops, and counter push afterwards.
This card is a huge game changer, and allows you punish your opponent hard if he/she over-commits on their push, taking 1 of their towers straight away. Be sure to pair it up with a Fireball/Poison/Arrows to counter their counter.
The reason why the Graveyard is not the best Legendary on our list is because of how easy it is to counter with a cheaper elixir cost, especially if you do not have any cards to deal with their counters.
Legendary #3: The Log
“A spilt bottle of Rage turned an innocent tree trunk into ‘The Log’. Now, it seeks revenge by crushing anything in its path!”
Next up, The Log. This card, despite having many nerfs, is great card in decks. It can take out the Goblin Barrel, Skeleton Army, Goblin Gang and The Princess, giving you a 1 positive elixir trade. It can also push enemies back, buying more time for your units on defense. You can time it so that it separates the oncoming tank and support, making it much easier to deal with the oncoming attack.
With the recent rise in popularity of the Night Witch card, the Zap Spell is more popular so as to counter the pesky little bats. The Tornado Spell grants more utility than The Log as you can use it on defense and even to activate your King Tower, so as to defend further pushes with relative ease. In the past, you’d see The Log in every deck.
However, do not be discouraged if The Log is your only Legendary. It’s a great option to put in your deck, so don’t be afraid of picking it up.
Legendary #4: Miner
“The Miner can burrow his way underground and appear anywhere in the Arena. It’s not magic, it’s a shovel.”
The Miner is not a super strong, overpowered card nor is it a weak card. The Miner’s strength lies in his ability to be deployed anywhere on the map, like a spell. He is tanky, no doubt. And does a fair amount of damage to troops. However, he does less damage to the Crown Towers.
He is seen fairly common in many Chip Cycle decks and Beatdown Decks. For Chip Cycle decks, the Miner constantly applies pressure onto the tower, which forces the opponent to defend or suffer much damage to the tower. An unattended Miner can deal substantial damage to crown towers. Whereas for Beatdown decks, the Miner serves as a unit to take down lone defenses. For example, many decks nowadays do not have strong air defense troops/buildings. A well-placed Miner can help take out the enemy Princess/Musketeer/Dart Goblin etc and allow the tank of the deck to survive longer. The Miner is especially popular in Lava Hound decks, to tank for the low-health Lava Pups.
He is used in many decks to counter Elixir Collectors too. An unattended Elixir Collector will put you at a disadvantage, and if your Miner can deal some damage to the Elixir Collector, you’ll be getting a huge elixir advantage.
Legendary #5: Princess
“This stunning Princess shoots flaming arrows from long range. If you’re feeling warm feelings towards her, it’s probably because you’re on fire.”
The Princess. One of the first few Legendary Cards to be released to the game. She is a moderate damage, slow attacking, long-ranged AoE troop but has very very low health. Her long range allows her to kill many low-elixir cost troops without them landing a single hit on the Princess. She can effectively counter Minions & Minion Horde, Skeletons & Skeleton Army, Goblins, Spear Goblins and Goblin Gang, and Lava Pups. However, her low health means she gets countered by spells very easily. The Log and Arrows are capable of taking her out instantly, but the Zap Spell does
Despite the easy counters, you can apply Chip damage relatively easily by placing her at the bridge. Her long range allows her to hit Crown Towers from the bridge, yet out of range for the Crown Towers. If you face many counters to the Princess, a good way to utilize her is by placing her behind your King Tower so she is out of range of The Log, or risk activating the King Tower if the opponents use Arrows. Better yet, try to use the Princess when your opponent has their counter cards out of cycle. Also, if you are dead certain that the opponent expended all their elixir, place the Princess at the bridge and laugh as your opponent has no answers to Her Highness.
Disclaimer: Clash Royale Legendary Cards
So that sums up our pick for the Top 5 Legendary Cards in the game. Just a disclaimer though, just because this is our Top 5, doesn’t mean it will be the best fit for your deck/playing style. Pick a Legendary that you are capable of utilizing well in your decks. If you’re a Free to Play player, gold is hard to come by. Choose wisely.
Until next time, Clash on!
